Singled out
Martha Wainwright Bleeding All Over You

Well try to get through this review without mentioning Marthas famous parents and brother. Drat. Well, with them out of the way, we can concentrate on this wondrous curtain-raiser to her new album I Know Youre Married But Ive Got Feelings Too. The splendid title is the theme of this single, a generous, stoic semi-ballad from the woman cast aside, with vocal hooks that melt the heart and an acoustic guitar ringing killer chord changes. Martha even manages to make Youve got cowshit in your brain sound tender, as violins underscore the poignant moments and the acoustic strum turns over and over. Beautiful and raw.
Mick Hucknall 'Poverty'

Housewives, get ready - the Huck is back. But look, hes ditched Simply Red and gone off on his own to record a covers album. Of course, the rest of the band always seemed like hired hands (can anyone name another member?) anyway, so its no surprise that the little fella with the big voice hasnt really suffered as a result. In fact, although multi-millionaire Mick singing along to R'n'B legend Bobby Blue Bands self-explanatory Poverty might seem a bit, um, rich, its the most refreshing thing hes done since 1989s A New Flame.
